Drawer Systems

Garthski

G,day all,
With respect to drawer systems and slide outs for the fridge, what might be the best side to have this on.
Same side as the door is hinged or the opposite?

I figure I'll get a 50/50 response for that one...LOL

No but seriously is any one way better for easier access and general usage when the fridge is onboard and your accessing the other (read) DARK SIDE!!!!!

From all the real life usage I'm sure the responses will be varied.

Cheers
Garth

Well wont this one be a conundrum ? We have the 80lt Waeco on the slide of the drawer unit on the drivers side ,the way it faces lets me see in the rearview mirror how many Led`s are on ect ,the baby 15lt Engle is mounted on the passenger side with the dial to the front for the same reason , this does not allow us to access either fridge while mobile however ,. never found it to be a problem ,,outback drawer system in an 80seriesGXL.

From my exerience the fridge should go on the LHS mounted as low as possible for easy access with 2 draws on the RHS. On the Playdoe many fit a drop down table on the rear door so with a fridge on the left you can still open it and transfer food accross. Put your other food & eating gear in the top draw which can also be opened with the table down. If your fridge isn't a whopper there will be space to fit 3 jerry cans between the boxing system & the back of the seats.
Cheers Craig..............

I've got the Outback drawers and fridge slide fitted in my 100s. Fridge slide is on the driver's side as per my choice at purchase. In hindsight I should have put it on the passenger's side. This would allow the bar of my chainsaw to slide behind the fridge and save space. Unfortunatley this isn't possible with the fridge on the driver's side - my two cents worth. :-)

Garth,
We have a Prado as well and our home made drawer system has the engel on the left hand side and 3 drawers on the left hand side, I opted for the drawers to be on the side as its lower and easier to get to the fridge, its an option you might want to look at when height is a problem.

G'day Garth, this works but I'm thinking of changing it to two low drawers (about 120mm high) with a removeable fridge slide and cage on the left and a fold down table on the larger right hand door.

This will allow me to use the back for other things when we're not on the road.

Garthski - a valid alternative works for us in our '05 Pajero which has a huge back door bolted on the drivers side and opens only about a quarter when the Aussie Swag is connected. We have a CF-50 Waeco. We removed the seat behind the front passenger and had a platform installed bolted to where the seat is normally secured.

It is anchored with the usual webbing and buckles so is totally safe and we still have lots of room for 2 passengers in the back seat.

We have very easy access to the fridge via the passenger side rear door.

Food for thought?? (pardon the pun!)

Cheers, Ray & Jenny W

On the 90series I redesigned the rear storage 4 times - it was a lot of fun. Final setup had fridge on left side, on floor level, with hutch above it for stove etc. then on the right, had 2 drawers - one was the right height for a slab, the other was the right height for a cask. By good fortune everything else fitted in :-)))

Hi Garth,
Another thing to think of is if you are ever going to fit a hinged drop down table to the inside of the rear door, when you are making a quick lunch and have plates, coffee and various other things on the table and need to get something out of the fridge you might be glad you put it on the passenger side, this being one of the reasons I fiited mine there, have a look at my rig pics for an example.
