Pajero NL TD Clutch

Hi All
Had to split my drive train recently so while they were at it I got the clutch replaced. Wear wasn't too bad but the spigot bearing was definately on the way out. Anyway, picked up the vehicle to find an extraordinary amount of clutch chatter and drive train noise at low revs. On further investigation I was informed the replacement clutch was a solid clutch without the cushion springs. This accounts for the noise. Am concerned the engine harmonics could detrimentally impact on the drive train life. Am told the clutch will handling towing better than the original. Could you learned folks out there offer opinion regarding the potential impact on the drive train?

Hi mate! I would seriously ask them to put a cushioned clutch back in. How many kays had the old clutch done??? did you ever have any problems towing with the original clutch??? When towing or any other driving for that matter the cushioning springs absorbes the shock out of the clutch take up. Now i would be expecting you to be replacing universal joints. Solid clutches are designed for high performance and race cars. Hope this information helps.

Yeah I'l go with you on this on Andrew, solid one's/ brass button clutches as they are also known as which is what I had in my VL rurbo commodore, are for high performance eg wrx, turbos etc, I would imagine they'd be bitch to tow with as with these clutches there either in or out no in between which makes it hard if you have a 1.5T van hanging off the arse end and trying to take off on a steep incline, I would be going back to the original typs that was in there, I think it will p@ss you off big time in the end. Just confirms my opinion, will be getting a cushioned clutch put back in. Am intending taking the matter up with the mitsubishi dealer tomorrow. If I get no satisfaction there I will be getting an aftermarket clutch put in.
