Roo Bar Replacement

My roo bar has hit one roo too many with the latest mishap and I need to replace it. My dilemna is that the replacements available all appear to sit way too close to the vehicle body and as such would offer little protection from the strikes that I am taking. I am unsure as it was on the car when I bought it, but my current bar could be a home made job, which is a damned shame as I really like what it does and how it looks.
Does anyone know of a replacement bar that would suit an 80 series and cover the gap between radiator grille and bar etc. ? MUST be steel and I suppose I may as well get winch type replacement.

Just been through all the research of bullbars and what impressed me was a demonstration video on the ARB steel bar.In the demo an alloy bar was clamped into place and a heavy bag of sand was dropped onto it from a height of approx 6 metres resulting in a smashed right wing.The test was repeated on the ARB steel bar with no damage.A good look at this bar shows really good design and utmost strength.At around $1300 painted and fitted not cheap but good protection in the long run.

ARB appears to be the best option but I don't think a big roo at 100-130 clicks can compare with a bag of sand which is where my concerns lie as ARB bar is too close to front of Cruiser.
I look like keeping what I've got and puttting up with dents and mis-shapen appearance until I can get something fabricated.

Landcruiser 80 series steel winchbar. Has not had a winch in it (cut outs are still intact) but will accept lowmount winch if required. Two spotlight tags, Grey in colour. Insurance will be apying for this which makes it a tad difficult. Mind you if my excess is comparable to a bid then I could forgo insurance and just buy it I suppose

You cannot go wrong ARB. Very strong and they look good. Understand what you mean about space though. Hit a tree in last car, looking for camp site not where I was going. Minimal damage to bar on inpact with tree but bar came back with side rail and smashed indicator. Lucky bar was there could have been a lot more expensive.

I've done the very same damage with the first Pilbara roo I hit, the next 4 made no impact at all (on me at least) but the last one has caved in front of bar (car untouched) so bar is looking a bit shabby. I might keep it for my tenure here in the Pilbara and replace with ARB when I return to Perth as it appears as though confrontations are going to continue.

The bars which point out from the front of the vehicle are now illegal in NSW. Most new bars are designed to meet the new regulations.

If you like the bar you have, then have you looked at getting it fixed rather than replaced.

Some metalshop may be able to press it back into shape for you. Then get it repainted or powdercoated. Good as new!

True about the weak spot. But they may be able to plate up behind where the repair is to strengthen it.
