Ironically Axle, some of the intersections around where I live actually flow better when the lights are out :-)

It's sort of like roundabouts (I hate 'em) but they often make the traffic flows better.

Dunno which state you're in Axle, but in NSW we have stop signs posted at all traffic lights on intersections. So if you come upon a set of malfunctioning lights, you just look on the pole, and if there's a stop sign with a silhouette of blacked out lights there, you treat it like a stop sign.

Cnr of Bermuda st and Nerang-Broadbeach Rd was out when I came through earlier today as well, and that is also a huge intersection for these neck of the woods, also no police on duty at that time.

Cemeteries are stacked with safe drivers who have only ever had one accident,,,, not meant to offend anyone but think about it,,,, lots of younger drivers seem to think they are bullet proof (and yep I did years ago too but in the days of lesser traffic and cars built like bricks)

Now don't laugh but I have an elderly relative who stops at the green lights just in case someone runs the red.... Caused numerous pileups behind her & has "helped police with their enquiries" on more than one occasion... Still a sound rational for stopping at a green light????

All your questions can be answered by downloading the Australian Road Rules from the internet and studying them.

As for roundabouts - they are a great way of improving traffic flow at busy intersections if used correctly. The problem is 90% of drivers do not know how to use them correctly. They would work more effectively if people would learn the road rules.

I used to live near one of the few uncontrolled intersections there are around these days. No one remembers you have to give way to the right anymore!!!. I was on a dirt road that crossed a bitumen road before turning to bitumen. Not once did anyone ever give way to me when I approached the intersection from their right. that is just basic road rules well before 101
