New Adventure

We've just bought a 18.6 Concept van and will be towing it with a Fairmont. Is anyone using a similar set up? We are leaving Tassie on 10th August for Queensland and as ex Motorhomers, are a bit daunted by the adventure. Any tips for the transition from driving to towing ansd would our combo drive OK on outback roads?

You should ask that question here as that forum will have members doing what you are about to do.

Don't think that there are a lot of Fairmont/Van combo's subscribing to this forum, but I could be wrong.

Oops sorry - didn't realise this was a 4 wheel drive site. The other forum you sent me too is too complicated. Cosmic

Brother in law has bought an off road caravan 17' or so, towed by his company Falcon- they're up at Darwin now, from Adelaide- he reckons that it's a great compromise as the swmbo doesn't bush camp- but he is very aware of the limitations of set-up ie. basically Ok, but it's no rock climber. Happy travels.

Thanks for that Tony, we don't intend to do much rock climbing this time, no further than Longreach, but just to try the rig out on roads because we really want to give it a shake down. Next March we'll use our old faithful Nissan Patrol Diesel to do a big trip but for the meantime the boss-kid has borrowed it and it suits us to make this a cruise and get used to the differences in living styles between a Winnebago and a caravan. I guess there will be compromises but life is a series of them. Cosmic
