UHF Handheld

I'm in the final throes in deciding on a handheld to go with my GME TX4400 in dash unit ...
Does anybody have an opinion on the new GME TX610- It looks a bit more bulky than the Uniden 042 and it uses AAA's vs AA's on the Uniden, BUT it has 1w output. I like AA's (better value for money-longer life) but the extra power would be nice- has anyone used the TX610???
What r your thoughts??- both about the same price...

Battery Life is given as 32hrs vs 11hrs on NiMiH batteries Uniden vs GME
and 38hrs vs 21hrs Alkaline.
Probably swings me in favour of the Uniden, but still looking for other opinions.

I would not have thought the the extra 0.5 watt would even be noticable..
But the 1 watt should chew the batteries quicker...
I would stick with the 0.5 watt....but thats me...
½watt gets over the sand dunes ok and across the river...

I have the UNIDEN 040xr. It uses "AA" batteries which last ages. It's power output is only .5w, BUT, I am very pleased with it's performance. I can get into the Pt Elliot repeater from the summit of Mt Barker (Sth Australia), that's a line of sight distance of just over 50kms.
I highly recomend this radio. The only difference you will notice by going to the GME 1watt radio is that you will go through more batteries.

They're AAA not AA batteries.
The best you can get in NiMih is about 700mAh.
The figures above which I quoted were from the manufacturers themselves- not likely to be much biased as they have to be accurate or they can be prosecuted under the trade practices act.....
AAA batteries "suck" I'm afraid as their capacity is lousy.
