Nissan Patrol's Tires

Hi!

I have a 2002 GU Patrol and I'm going to be replacing the original tires/tyres soon. My question is that does anybody know what is the largest tire size I can fit on a stock Patrol. No lift kits or anything like that installed. 100% stock.

Also I plan on keeping the standard 16 inch rims.

Thanks in advance!

265-75-16 seem to be about the best size for a std GU they "look" a bit bigger with a slight increase in height without going overboard.

We've got 265/75/16's on our GU and are very happy with this tyre size. Look good, feel good and fixed the approx 10km/h fast reading the speedo used to give with the standard tyres.

Melissa (& others)

Can you advise if "fixed the approx 10km/h fast reading the speedo used to give with the standard tyres" is a known problem for std GU tyres (Bridgestone Dueler 265/70 AT 693)
I have a late 2001/2002 GU Patrol & have not heard about this problem before.

Hi Jed,

AFAIK, this is a known problem with GU's and the standard tyres. There have been several references made to the problem on this forum in the past and in fact, is what prompted us to have our speedo checked, and sure enough....

Our GU is 1998 though so I can't really comment on whether the problem has been fixed in the later models. Perhaps a Nissan service centre could advise you.

An easy way to check is using the speed function in most good GPS units.

265/75/16 seem to be the popular choice for patrol owners.i don't know how big you are looking to go but you must keep in mind the transport department rules on increaseing tyre diameter. in qld the limit is 25mm.that means if you increase the tyre diameter by more than 25mm your vehicle will be consdered illegal(insurance company can wipe your policy)also keep in mind that tyre diameters vary between brands even if they are the same size,so just because one brand is in the 25mm limit, another may not.i also have opinions on tyre brands if you want them.hope this helps

Jason, NSW and ACT have similar requirement but limit is 15 mm. However, Nissan have a replacement tyre placard available from spare parts which caters for the 265/75 size, costs $17.40 from my local dealer in Canberra. They have been available since 1998 I'm told by Nissan Technical as Nissan recognised the limited options available in 265/70 replacement tyres. Also, the cab-chassis comes standard with 265/75 tyres so there is no technical reason not to increase wagon tyre size to that. Nissan part number is 99090VB000A and it keeps RTA and, most importantly, your insurer happy. Picking mine up today. I'll get about 35,000 KM from standard Bridgestone Dueller AT 693 and can't wait to replace them.

Cheers

Kevin

Doing well Kevin, you know what mileage you get out of your tyres even before you drive on them. Got 60000 out of mine with regular balance and rotation. If you regard them so poorly why not get the dealer to put some GOOD tyres on.
just a thought Regards Peter

Peter,
I have so far 98000kms on my BFGs all terrains 265/75 16... and they haven't had such an easy life, often used on rocky and chopped up country, (Cape York and Vic High country) being some of the places they have been to....
They are still in the car and they are not yet on the tread wear indicator mark....
They have been rotated every 10000kms and balanced once.

Not a single puncture.

I guess that is what Kevin is looking forward to....

Just a thought regards Will

Peter - I'm good, but not that good. The tyres have now done 29,500 and judging by the wear, and comments from Bridgestone's technical people about how they not necessarily the best tyre for a Patrol, I think I'll be lucky to get 35,000 out of them. Tyres have been regularly rotated and balanced and most use has been on the blacktop commuting. Bridgestone recommend that I go to 265/75 604V Dueller with 13 mm tread Vs the 9mm on the OE tyre - they also suggested 35,000 - 40,000 would be pretty good out of the OE tyres.

search the archives its been done....

Mate has 36 swampers on his 3.0 patrol, but 2in lift, so you should fit 33/34inch JT2's if you like.

Thanks for the tidal wave of answers!

As I actually live in Finland, I can go up more than 25mm and still be totally legal.

I was thinkin something on the line of 285-300/70-75R

Will that fit?

And I'm also looking for a bullbar, but the best ones seem to sold in down under. You lucky bastards! =) Does anybody know if I can order a bullbar etc. from Australia? Would any company be willing to ship it to Finland?

I wish I could make my truck like that!

But I still use it primarily on the road and I would have to consult the local authorities about those wheels/lift kits.

According to the law, I can go up 51mm in diameter and 102mm in width from OE tires.

Thanks for all the answers. I guess I'll have to go shopping in a couple of weeks.
