Fuel prices and camping

Good to see fuel prices not discouraging people from heading out camping over the school holidays. On a overnight trip to Merredin from Perth on Sunday morning and back to Perth again Monday morning I must have past at least 40 vehicles towing vans, trailers or with camping gear heading east.
Felt rather jealous as they kept going past seeing as I was heading home and back to work.

We also saw plenty of vehicles with vans/campers/trailers in tow... We went to the Avoca(Vic) area for 4 days, took 2 cars because we couldn't fit all the toys in one... Simply a matter of giving the rib-eye's a miss for this trip and drinking a few less white cans... (Although the alcohol was provided by work via a Coles-Myer voucher)

Many caravan owners are on a fixed income. The fuel prices are just one area of increase in the cost of living, there has been a heap of 'user pays' passed on as well over the decade and that is biting I would think.

Maybe more people will take shorter or less frequent trips.

However I am wondering when the 'boomer' investment in vans and RVs will taper off and there is a new craze. - Especially as regards those who are new to vanning and camping.

Yes, I reckon in a few years time the 'Trader' mags will be full of good 4x4's, caravans, camper trailers, RV's and buses.

We have to plan our trips judiciously. This year we paid $1.90litre for diesel in two places in WA. A fuel up at Newman cost $450 !!!

We have just come back from travelling up the centre hwy to Port Hedland and backdown the west coast, noticed so many more people stopping at free overnight camp spots than we usually see, you have to cut down somewhere with petrol the price it is. Save $20 here and there it all adds up.
