generators and air conditioners

Hi all,
Done some research on the virtues of the Honda eu2000 and eu3000 generators and equivalent Kipors with respect to running air conditioners.

But I am not clear on whether the Honda eu2000, once having started the a/c on full throttle, can then be switched to eco-throttle. Is it a case of whatever setting the generator starts the load on, it must stay on that?

That being the case, would a 3000 watt generator run the a/c more efficiently, more quietly and more effoftlessly than a 2000watt?

My inclination would be to buy a Kipor 3000 if that were the case

Stick with the Honda - it does the job, is quiet, compact and lightweight. Good reputation too. Can't remember about the throttle, we didn't need the air con this year.

Hi there Inspired,

about 12 months ago i sold a kipor kge2000ti to a guy to run his split system in his van. When he tried it, it would start the aircon but when the aircon went to cycle (ie start up again after stopping it's compressor) it wouldn't kick back in. We then tried the 3000 and it did the exact same thing. I have no idea why though.

About 2 weeks later he rang me and told me that he had contacted a honda dealer who had bought out a eu2000 and that had run the aircon no worries at all including being on eco throttle. This being 2nd hand information i'd check with a honda specialist before purchase.

I'd recomend the Honda.

Cheers, ToNy!

Gday Inspired

SomethingI haven't read on this forum, but a friend had a motorhome with 2 split systems which ran on the eu3000 Honda on eco throttle, and the rep said he'd have no trouble with a 2000.......as long as he didn't fire both of them up at the exact same time. The trick was he had inverter air cons, so the compressor had a soft start up, and didn't stop and start but slowed down or sped up depending on their workload. Maybe something to keep in mind for new air con purchases, but expensive to replace the existing unit. He also sourced an auto starter for the eu3000 for a coupe of hundred bucks, so he could remote start and stop the gennie from inside the bus.

Hope this may be of help....to someone

Cheers Andrew

best to have soft start for aircons....the compresser (non soft start systems) can pull around 7 times full load running current on start up.....ie lots of amps
