I doubt there's much they can do to combat this.
Newspapers know what sells papers and as they say "Don't let the truth stand in the way of a good story".
That's a bit defeatist I know but as long as we do our bit by driving with consideration of others (although tempted at times to give them a nudge!) like stting back a bit at road junctions so they can see past the front etc. we can only hope that the powers that be won't take too much notice of calls to ban us from metro roads.
Dobbing in those that deliberately damage the bush with their antics may also assist in proving we're not all environmental hooligans.
Shooters put up with a very bad image fostered by greenies and cun control loonies irrespective of the fact that the vast majority of
gun crime is not by licenced shooters but by crims., with unlicenced guns and who don't obey any laws.
There should be some alliance between us two groups together with friendly pollies (is there such a thing?) in an effort to combat this damaging image.

That's exactly right. And an anti 4wd headline is probably aimed at people with 4WDs who will buy that paper to see what the story is.
