3.0Ltr TD Patrol...something to look out for.

3.0turbob

'Afternoon all,
Just having my usual poke around the engine bay to make sure everything is as it should be. Removed the plastic cover on top of the engine and intercooler and noticed some wear marks on the fins on top of the intercooler near the back(firewall end) and on the edge on the drivers side. Had a look underneath the plastic cover and sure enough, corresponding marks on there. The rubber "seal" on the bottom of the cover comes into contact with the intercooler fins when fitted and by the looks of things can wear through the fins due to vibration. I promptly trimmed part of the seal with a knife to give about a 1-2 mm clearance so it won't rub. Mind you, before I trimmed it there was about 5 mm clearance on the other side (while cover was fitted).
Just somethig for others to look out for.

Cheers,
Rob

Yes, that plastic cover is very flexible. Mine was tightened down so much it was rubbing on the pipe from the turbo to the inter cooler and eventually rubbed thru it. Luckily it happened on the last day of a 4 day trip on the way home so we only had to put up with the hissing sound for 3 or 4 hours.

If at first you don't succeed, trade it in for a NISSAN.
