Number 2 could be as Bros1 says or it could be the spring pack shifting.
You can try torquing them up to a 180lbs and see if it makes a differnce.
Otherwise tierod ends are a likely cause.

Put the front wheels alongside a kerb so its impossible for them to turn,get someone to rock the steering.
You may see some parts move and other stay still at the joints indicating slop.
