Snorkel versus intercooler

Happy New Year All!

I have been pondering this question on my own for a while now.

I have an NG Pajero with the 2.5 TD.

I have recently replaced this motor with an updated 1996 4d56T. Basically more anti-pollution garbage on the same motor but it did come with an intercooler.

I have already got a snorkel doing it's thing well.

I am wondering if there would be little , if any , difference in air-in temperature if I was to go down this path?

Cheers
Jason

Gidday Jason,

Not quite sure what your question is, but if it's about temperature differences, the difference between inlet temperatures between snorkel and conventional would be only a couple of degrees if you're lucky.

An intercooler, however would have a significant impact on the temperature between compressor discharge and intercooler outlet. Of course, as well as less heat going into the engine, the cooler air is more dense and hence better for efficiency.

If the motor has provisions for a intercooler, take advantage of it,snorkel will do stuff all for intake temperature, but an intercooler will
look at cruiser turboed motor outputs (approx)
120 kw/380 nm 7# series
151kw/430 nm 100 series
point is they are the same motor, difference is one has an intercooler!
