You can perform the tasks and save the Regions on the Computer's Hard Drive, but then when you select to upload it to the
GPS, walk away for a few hours. It takes a LONG time.
The card reader (Programmer) makes things much simpler and faster and the Card Reader (Programmer) is also useful for transfering pics from your digital camera to the PC without having to connect the Camera to it. Most Card Readers have multiple slots that take SD, XD, CF cards, etc.
As you move from one "region" to another, the map will automatically swap to that currently applicable in the location you are in.
That's my experience anyway.
