Conversion manager is not required in this case - it is for use with eXplorist units - doesnt actuall convert the maps - just transfers them from your computer to the GPS unit after you have created them with DiscoverAus...a task you can do by cutting and pasting anyway.

You can perform the tasks and save the Regions on the Computer's Hard Drive, but then when you select to upload it to the GPS, walk away for a few hours. It takes a LONG time.
The card reader (Programmer) makes things much simpler and faster and the Card Reader (Programmer) is also useful for transfering pics from your digital camera to the PC without having to connect the Camera to it. Most Card Readers have multiple slots that take SD, XD, CF cards, etc.

As you move from one "region" to another, the map will automatically swap to that currently applicable in the location you are in.

That's my experience anyway.

My apologies for the incorrect capacity information I posed above.

I checked the SD card in the GPS when I got home and it has a capacity of 512mb, of which just under 265mb has been used to store all DiscoverAus regions and Great Australian Desert regions.

I would not want to deliberately mislead people.

The Mapsend.ini file is in the DiscoverAus directory on your computer (on my computer it is Program Files/Magellan/DiscoverAus). You can alter the limit on region sizes by modifying this section of the mapsend.ini file using a text editor (eg notepad)

In this example I have changed Conv_Memory_Size= from standard 16000 (or thereabouts) to 64000...so now I can make maps up to 64mb in size..but I normally restrict them to around 20mb. It is possible to get all of WA as two files..so Im happy

Had a look the GPSaus site and it said that each region can be up to 16mb,s , so had another go at the regions and got it down to 15 now .
