BF Goodrich Mud Terrains & Canning Stock Route

Submitted: Thursday, Jan 04, 2007 at 09:23

Old Johno [NSW]

G'day to all, I currently have 4 x BFG M/T tyres on a set of ROH rims I use when getting fair dinkum but I need to replace my 2 spares & am looking at using the BFG M/T's.
Will be doing the Canning in the near future & would appreciate feedback as to how the Mud Terrians handle this track
Did a search through the forum but no real feedback
Many thanks
Have a Good one

Travelled the CSR from north to south, two vehicles both with BFG M/T tyres. Had no undue problems at all, no flats on either vehicle.

In fact thats all I have ever used on that vehicle.

bfg m/t's worked well on the canning for us.
personally think they are hard to beat on sand as well as mud.
as long as you watch the loud pedal and don't go down instead of forward!

BFG M/T's were fine for me also on the Canning. The other thing to remember is it isn't all sand out there and when its wet you could be wishing for even more aggressive rubber than M/T's !

My experience shows Goodyear MTR are a more rugged trip type than the BFG M/T.

We have cut up many tyres / tested tyres. Put a screw driver and a knife through an old tyre of each brand and see which one you would prefer.

Whilst people may say 'I have never had a puncture and driven the XX track XX times' luck has a lot to do with it.

I have had punctures with Super Swampers which have a good 1/2 inch thick sidewall...

Will they do the Canning? No problems. Are there better tyres for the terrain? Lots.
Although it would be nice to have the perfect tyres for all the different terrain we drive on, it really isn't practical to change each & every time so some compromise is needed.
If you don't intend to do any cross country driving with the BFG's they will do but I don't believe they are tough enough to minimise stake penetration if you are. Something like an MTR or Procomp would be a better option (IMHO) in that case.
