Shear Pins for a Beaver Tuff Pull 1.6t Hand winch

Hi there again,

Just purchased a Beaver Tuff Pull Hand winch(2nd Hand off Ebay) it cost me along with Snatch Strap, Extension strap, tree truch protector, Loop sling, block, drag chain, fold up shovel and 8 rated shackles, $415.

To me that seemed pretty good :)

The question is, I dont seem to be able to find and spare shear pins for the winch. Can I purchase them an if so where and how much?

Also there seems to be a bit of surface rust on the winch body and handle, do you recommend I brush/sand it all back and repaint of just leave it? It works like a charm.

Hi Dolfn,
I've got a Beaver (handwinch), which I purchased new from ARB about three years ago. You should be able to get shear pins through them or one of those shops that specialise in wire rope equipment & rigging. I haven't sheared a pin yet and used it about 20 times from heavy duty recovery to light work. I would guess the pins aren't that expensive, maybe 5 - $10?
As to the surface rust I can't really advise. I'd probably leave it and thoroughly clean and lubricate it after each use. I'm sure somebody will have more knowledge in that area.

Just check the short operating levers, and if there is a rubber plug on the end the spare pins should be under it.

They are on Tirfor, Brano, etc.

Best way to beat the rusting problem is to get the casing and handle electroplated.
