We've been evacuated twice today from our rental apartment complex due to the fire alarms tripping. Add to that we have no lights and fans due to nuisance tripping of the RCD protected circuit. Boy it is wet!

Might head up to the Dam soon to check out the new spillway construction.

Not looking good at the moment.
Last trip up your way we had to leave early due to Larry.
I note that some of the dams are showing some good increase in levels.

P.S. The desert and channel country should look good this winter.

Looks like you're getting some of what we had yesterday.

We've been checking out the damage just on our place.
Lot's of washed away creek crossings, fencing pulled over, flood gates ripped away. Pain in the A$$ as we had just about finished fixing things after Larry last year.

Hope you guys don't get too much damage.

Bohle river was flooded. In 3 hours it rose 1 1/2 metres and is now 1 metre over the bridge. Blakeys crossing is of course flooded. (that's near the airport for out of towners.) I will post up some more pics soon. I didn;t get many as I had to drive across town to Justine's work first.

In Mar 97, Townsville had 470mm of rain from Cyclone Justin - I remeber it well because we lived at Alice River (20 km out of Townsville near Herveys Range) and my wife was due to have our second son. The Bohle was overflowing and cut us off for a couple of days - couldn't even go via the oyther way (can't recall the name of the other crossing Blackwood I think) as it was flowing that fast they thought the bridge mightn't even hold out.

Then in Jan 98 Townsville had 860 mm in 36 hours - that was when we had the big floods - I remember it well because we were in the middle of packing up to leave Townsville to move to Sydney - what a drama.

It's good to see the rain finally come - but theres a cyclone building so you might be in for some more.

There goes my chance of getting back home to Mackay.......Highway cut in at least 5 seperate spots.

As an update, Mackay is expecting major flooding of the Pioneer River due to the 5.88m high tide at 11.08am together with around a couple hundred mm of rain yesterday and the same again overnight. I emptied the pool before i left 5 days ago and it is now 3/4 full ! If anyone knows the area, then the Hospital bridge is 1.5m underwater and the Forgan Bridge is expected to touch the water if not go under! The levees around Mackay are looking like they may be inundated.

My SES Unit (the Whitsunday Unit) are assisted 130 passengers stranded at the Proserpine Airport due to closure of the Highway at Gorganga Creek and Lethebrook. Heavy vehicles are being brought in to access the Airport and Food and Welfare supplies are being transported as we speak. Good luck guys.

Fortunately because of my knowledge of these issues, we bought a house above flood/storm surge levels.......a nice feeling when stuck in Townsville. God speed to the SES guys who are busy in Mackay at the moment preparing for expected flooding of the CityHeart area.
