Kakadu is that sort of place - you do have to take the time to get between places - you can't zoom around in a day - you just miss too mu ch - we all need to take the time to enjoy what is around us - we've been known to take three days to travel 100k - because we saw a sign on the road and decided to investigate what was there - spent some time and then got back on the road - love it!!
(And I don't mind paying to get into some places - after all facilities have to be managed, cleaned and cared for - i.e. picking up rubbish left by careless people)
