No how brilliant does that engine sound??? Might be a different story if you whacked it in a vehicle weighing 3 tonne........

You stick to your jeep for getting around town and maybe getting the tyres dirty once in a while, I'll stick to my 4.2 when I want to go off road and have a reliable simple engine that I can fix without a laptop and dyno etc etc...not to mention it wil lpull more than just the skin off custard like so many undersized motors in Full size 4WD.. if you NEED a full size 4WD, you NEED an engine big enough to move it... the 3L is great for the townies who go get wet once in a blue moon and only use it to pul the skin off thier custard.. the 4.2 is a great old workhorse that is tried and proven and is yet to dissapoint anyone other than greenies.. I'm all for cutting down poloution where and whenever possible... but they are not pieces of CRAP, they are not being pahesed out due to being unpopluar.. they are being phased out becuase of stricter emission controls.. so be it.. that doesn;'t mean I shold be penalised in 4 years time for a descion I made today based on a need I have right now.. nothing wrong with Govt cracking down either.. go for it.. but you cant punich or penalise those who have already made the the choice..

Don't worry about Member "LUCY"......he is a member of our 4WD Club too (so that makes him an honoury ....if not an "haunery" South Aussie) and I happen to know for a fact that 110% of everything he says on this forum is tongue in cheek.

You'd never guess it in a million years, but he actually LOVES Patrols. On the one and only club trip he went on with us to KI last year, he couldn't keep his hands off my Patrol. He was intrigued with it to the point that he asked would I consider swapping it for his smelly, oily old 4.2 Droopcarrier with the pregnant bonnet (it suffers from terminal overheating hence the need for the HUGE reverse bonnet scoop).

Have to admit that I have 4.2 turbo'd 1HZ in the best Troopy you have ever seen.

The JEEP is a high tech piece of electronic managed automotive genious engineering - straight out of the ACME DIY factory.

Just one leetle hiccup and the whole management system chits itself. Lights on everywhere.

However it is an extremely powerfull little coota with very low pollution emissions when running smoothly and will tow Truckies head of his shoulders unlike Roachies V8 which would fail miserably.

Oh! Roachie thanks for the support and I now won't be looking over my shoulder whilst driving through SA next month. (LOL)

I'll have to apply a couple of 'Davids' ( instead of colourful Aussie vernacular) to you for even suggesting the JEEP is a visual pollution.

When the ban (oops meant discontinue) polluting 4.2's then you will see some visual pollution.
