Hi Doug,
Have you ever found errors in the log? I was checking my return trip from Pemberton on my Garmin
GPS V and I have a few readings that are way out of whack.
For example I had a single speed reading of 138 km/hr, yet either side it read 101 km/hr and the time between readings was less than 10 seconds! - and all this while the cruise control was set for 100 km/hr!!! So i decided to check further and my best reading was 209 km/hr yet either side was 76 and 81 km/hr - as well as the leg course changing from 340 to 47 and back to 341 degrees in that time.
1111 29/12/2006 6:59:06 PM 102 m 116 m 0:00:02 209 km/h 47° true S34.51364 E115.99593
As this reading was only for 2 seconds, either I hit a time warp continuum or there is some inaccuracy in the track log. I once thought I could use this log to prove I wasn't speeding, but after seeing this well I would lose my license for 209 km/hr!!!
Anyway, my question is have you seen anomalies like this in your logs or is it simply that my
GPS V has an older processor and at times doesn't keep up with all the functions it is doing?
Cheers
Captain

Hi Robin,
I have a remote antenna mounted on my
snorkel and at the time I was travelling on the main road from Northcliffe-Pemberton.
I agree a loss of sat cover would give this type of thing, but I would not expect that to have occurred at this instance . Besides, I never received the
GPS warning that I had lost sat cover. And given that I found several anomalies like this, it has certainly cast doubt on my presumption that one could try and use this if caught speeding.
Cheers

I have also observed that type of reading without satellite loss indication Captain.
Your
snorkel sounds like a good spot. I believe that this however is the main reason and suspect you would have had more when internally mounted.
Never really got to the bottom of these things , but its feasible that radio signal
multi-path reflections can cause them.
I have verified that the "Planar" type of antenna mounted on a flat steel car roof causes less than the helical whip type I more commonly use.
