I don't know the current prices, don't go there any more. But here a little history that some may remember.

The original barge operator from Inskip Point (who's name escapes me) ran a good cheap service (around $10.00 return I think from memory) then in the eighties one of there island's resort owners (who shall remain annonimous) wanted it all for himself and began running 2 barges from Inskip for FREE and of couse because of peoples short sightedness in not supporting the original barge eventually sent the original out of business. And now we pay.

Preditory pricing at it's worst.

September last year it was $25 bucks (ute and trailer), and they fought to get our business. One operater even had the tight topped lass with a sign that read $20......

However, with our load, we were almost bogged when we noticed her.

What the other fellows were saying is correct, but the resort owner on Fraser has sold out to the Kingfisher resort consortium which includes his barges. Added to this, is the government Fair Trading department has steped in to stop the price war between the barge owners. My last knowledge of the prices at Inskip are around the $70 now regardless who you go with. The barges out of River Heads near Hervey Bay and at Hervey Bay I believe are charging around the $100 (can't be certian of that price but I think its close). So its up to you whether you think its worth the $30-$50 price difference to drive the 110km one way trip that you mention.
From my knowledge, I think the price waring on the barges has well and truely finished around here. Hope this helps.

I knot it's not Fraser, but went to Dirk Hartog last year. We were slugged $500 per car for the barge with no free beer and no skimpy. Just a barge driver that didn't care how late he got up. Makes $70 seem O.K

Sorry to throw a little more on the fire but none of you people have said anything about the permit for driving on the island. Whether your there 1 day or 30 days you have to pay $30 for the PRIVLEGE of driving on the island. That's on top of the $70 for the barge. (Don't get caught NOT paying the fees either I here the rangers are dishing out hefty fines)

Further to my reply of last night, I made a couple of calls today and the info is as follows;; Inskip Point $60 return, Hervey Bay $80 but you have to book your passage prior to the trip. At Inskip Point you just rock up and drive on board and hang onto your ticket to use on your return trip. The chioce is yours wether you want to arrive and depart at a pre-determined time or want that time to be flexible? Regards Salty.

salty has the prices right, if you are going up about the 12th i think the low tide is around lunch time so inskip would be a good choice, check the tides we go over on the "manta ray", green barge and independantly owned. its a hard slog at high tide driving in soft sand for 100km.
if conditions are right we come up from noosa to rainbow along the beach.
access permit $30 and $4 per person camping. good value i reco.i love the place have a good time.

I don't know who you rang for your prices salty but as of april 1

Moon Point, Wangoolba Crk and KBRV barges are $110 return for vehicle, driver and 3 pax, extra pax are extra.

Inskip barges are $60 return for vehicle and all occupants.

This is the way it is, this is not heresay.
