what is a good brand of power pack which will jump start a 6cyl patrol and how much would i have to part with for a good one

i think it would have to be more than the 600amp one but i could be wrong

i know supa cheap has these things for $40 but i think it would be a bit unrelieable

I rely on a 900A powerpack from supercheap to start a diesel cruiser ute and 70hp outboard.
I havent used it for myself yet, only on everyone elses vehicles and for camping, blackouts, etc.
It has started a V6 petrol motor in an old modified landcruiser.
I wouldnt get buy anything smaller than a 900A.

I have a 600 amp superclap item I use for the camp light and 12v shower. It wouldn't start a 4 cyl petrol motor let alone a diesel. Don't know about their 900 amp jobbie.

G'day GQ
I've had a Projecta for about 9 years, been a beauty.I run my versa lights and shower off it and have used it many times to start my boat and other peoples cars.I cant remember how many cranking amps it produces but has a 17 amphour battery. On special at Repco for about $99

The Projecta brand "Jump Starter" are OK for the occasional emergency boost to a flat starting battery but be aware they only provide a maximum of about 475 CCA and would be unlikely to be good enough for a deisel, etc.
There is a difference in their rating of say "900 amps" and what their Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) or Amp Hour (Ah) output is.

They also have a capacity of around the 17 A/h mark which would be useless for anything other than running a couple of fluro lights, or similar low drain devices.

A "good" brand of Power Pack?
The "Blue Apple Thumper" if you can justify the cost.
Nothing else even comes close with up to 1200 Cold Cranking Amps of grunt to start the biggest of Deisel engines.

I have the Projecta 400CCA jumper pack, i can for sure it will start a TD5 Disco, i know this cause i started mine at Cadelga Ruins when i flattened my main battery, i don't think it would do it twice though if i happened to stall it after starting it, as it only managed do turn mine just enough to start it.

Oh the Disco TD5 uses a 860CCA battery as standard.

(I forgot to isolate my dual batteries)

GQ,

It depends on what your requirements are for Amp hour capacity as well as Cold Cranking Amps.

They have units ranging from a 30 Ah high cranking Outback at $529 retail to the 105 Ah high cranking Thumper at $949.

As far as I know, all units come with an in-car charging kit.

For Blue Apples go to Home of 12v. They make them, and also have "seconds" available for a reduced price.

I have a projecta (original cost around $140) which I purchased 3 years ago. Its started my 6 cyl petrol jack when the battery went west. started my daughters car several times until she learnt where the light switch was, starts my sons car frequently (he's away 2 out of 3 weeks) and regularly runs my light when out camping. after 3 years I'm waiting for it to pack up and I'll go and get battery world to replace the batteries. More than happy with the unit

aka?

Do you care to elaborate buddy.

The poster asked for advice on a "good" unit and I'm giving it based on experience and ownership of both a Projecta 17Ah unit and a 75 Ah Thumper.

What's your "claim to fame"?

True ,to true ,have yet to see any vehicle drive itself without human input so "best" becomes a very subjective theory at "best".
