Battery management

Has anyone had experience with ROTRONICS battery management systems. I have been considering the independent systems RFC12 and RDC 12M. I'm told that the independent system is kinder on battery life than the parallel systems.

If you are going to spend that much cash why not buy a 80w solar panel and your problems are over for good. You can park up and have power without worrying about a flat battery.

What do you call 'kinder' on battery life?

I installed the RDC12M this time last year and all my woes are forgotten. It will cost as I'm sure you've already discovered, but I justified/offset the cost by the fact that I was chewing through both batteries in a year and all mates who have fitted Rotronics haven't touched a battery in 3 years and more. To date this appears as though it may just be spot on so there's $300 plus per year gained already, and that couple with total reliability makes me one happy camper!Do or Do Not - there is no try !

Fitted the same unit to my Patrol last November for similar reasons - mainly the aux battery only lasting 18 months a time plus I was on my third parallel controller in 7 years (at about $250 a pop) in my previous vehicle. The Rotronics unit does cost but seems to do a great job - I now have a caravan with its own deep cycle battery and the Rotronics charges it as well as the two in the vehicle. No problems to date, fingers crossed.

I have a rotronics in my gu 4.2T and wouldn't know it was there. It just does it's job.

In my previous vehicle GQ4.2D i cooked three different management units and ended up weith a very simple manual one.

Don't know about cost as this one was in when I bought the vehicle, bit it beats having flat batteries.
