Arrived in Jabiru on the 8th March and still can't get ADSL connected.

Telstra techs are out in the field fixing flood damage, so we are low on the list for ADSL connection.

Had a reasonable trip up. It took five and a half days and 3800 kms.

Only a couple of problems, winch post on boat trailer snapped of at winton and it cost the princely sum of $25 fix. They re welded it back on and the put two plates on it to ensure it did not happen again, the spray painted it.

Fan belt started to squeal at Berkley Homstead and broke one km outside Tenant Ck. Two hours later we were on our way.

Overall it was a good trip. The wife and the dogs gave it the thumbs up.

Have had a look at a few placed, but there is water every where.

Steve T I'll send you a member message.

So far we are enjoying the NT and Jabiru style of life, although it takes a while to get use to walking backwards...... just joking.

I made the move to Katherine from the Riverland (SA) last year and have not regretted it. The Top End is great.

In regard to Telstra they would rate as the most inefficient mob I have ever dealt with. In 2002 I had a house built. It took the builder six months to build it. It took Telstra 8 months to connect the phone to it. From there the list of problems I have had with Telstra goes on and on and on, etc.

We were in katherine on saturday having a bit of a look and a shop.

Packed the Bushman fridge with meat and drove back to Jabiru only to find fridge had shirt itself. I am ringing the company in a few minutes to resolve the problem as it is still under warranty.

In regards to telstra it would make you blush to hear what people up here say.

Look ..... this isn't Bangladesh..... telecommunications setup takes awhile here in Australia :-o) .... aren't you lucky that they are even considering an order ? Some people in the major cities in Oz can't even get to that stage !

At least you can get it. I live in outer Perth less than 45km away and cant get anything more than dial up. I would wait months if we could get something decent.

Some friends in Rivervale, about 7km from the Perth CBD, can only get dialup coz their phone line is on a RIM. Was able to get no indication when the situation might improve.
Next-G Wireless was offered, but it was a bit out of the budget for pensioners.

Hey Boo Boo

I got your message and will ring you this afternoon, Don't feel to bad we moved here last year same time, and to get 2 mobiles, 2 land lines, (already established), Broadband, a 1300 # and an EFTPOS set up and put onto 1 bill.

It took 24 phone calls to Telstra, 4 visits from technision, 2 trips to Darwin for them to get it right.

2 weeks later we get a call from someTelstra rep, We have just introduced a plan that would suit you would you like to change to it?

You can all guess how the call was terminated.

Steve.

I live in suburban Adelaide and cannot get ADSL - ever. Telstra have no plans to fix that issue any time soon. They offered 3G wireless - at about 5 times the cost of land line. No thanks.
