Alice Springs to Queensland to Melbourne

I am travelling by 2wd campervan from Darwin to Melbourne. I originally intended to travel from the Red Centre down to Adelaide and then across to Melbourne. I would like to visit at least some part of Queensland. Could anyone offer ideas on a good route from Alice Springs across into Queensland and then down to Melbourne. My main consideration will be to see as much wildlife and landscapes as possible.

Regards to all who reply

John,

Try the Matilda Highway and the Kidman way. It is a 2WD route, and goes through some historic parts of the country. Have a look at the trips on this site.

John: you forgot to mention the month you intend to travel!! makes a hell of a difference in any decision ... How about Alice to Harts Range on to the Plenty Highway to Boulia then to Emerald and then to Rockhampton-- from there you can trek down the coast wavering off Highway 1 to Melbourne-- bur really, the time of year is most important !! sorry seems so simple but.....
