I would do g/box and transfer oil while you are going as well. Air oil and fuel filters. this should keep you busy untill someone else adds to the list.

Cheers, trevor.

Hey Frank

The first thing I do when I get a new (second hand ) truck for my business is the following.

Replace Engine oil, front and rear diff oil, gearbox and transfer, grease all points, Inspect re-grease and or replace wheel bearings, replace oil, fuel and air filter and any other filters.

Then as at that date and mileage you can keep your own records and start you service records from there.

Cheers Steve.

180k and no service history - theres only one answer - you need to do everything in the book. It would help if you told us what vehicle you have.

Valve clearances, Timing Belt, All gearbox, transfer case, diff oils, fuel filters, oil filters, wheel bearings front and rear, chassis grease, battery etc etc etc

Hope you have a spare arm or leg if you are getting it done by a workshop ;-))

Peter replied:

Whenever I've bought a second hand car I've done all the above mentioned changes, but also do the brake, clutch and power steering fluid. The brakes especially cope a bashing over a period of time. Normally costs me around $100 to have all 3 flushed and new fluids. Also replace all the belts and keep the oldies as spares. May cost a bit initially but I've never been stuck on the side of the road with a minor mechanical repair due to maintenance
