I have just put on a set of Goodyear AT/R 265/70/R15 (you do not state whether you have the 15" rims or newer 16s). So far done 10k km and no issues - mostly bitumen, sand and easy dirt/gravel through, so I would hope that they have had no issues. Seem to be wearing well. Slightly more noisey at highway speed than the Cooper ATs that were on there (which just laster the "guaranted 50k km). I think I paid ~$235ish in November when they were running a $75 per set of 4 cash back.

We have Kumhos on the 4runner and Paj and like them. Nice and quite , good on wet tar, wear a little below average but for the price you can not beat them. We have 205 / 16 and 10r s on the paj which are more open and aggressive. we paid $170.00 for the 10rs and $150 for the 2o5s

I’ve had Goodyear wrangler atr’s on my 98 challenger (15inch rims) for past 2 years and no complaints. Live in the Pilbara and the tires have done gibb river road including Mitchell plateau, and numerous offroad excursions around the pilbara, no punctures to date. Quiet on-road and good handling. Done about 50000, I haven’t rotated them at all and rears probably have 15% tread left and the fronts 30%. Will probably replace with same, I bought them for $200 a tire on special. For the price they have been great.

If you're after longevity then throw the Coopers and Toyo Opats into the equation.
Have a mate with Pirellis and he loves them, although he does seem to replace them regularly so I suspect that life expectancy isn't great. Don't know about the others. I think you need to put the initial price into perpective and look at expected mileage per dollar outlayed.

Had the RA03 on my old NJ Paj and although they were not too bad I would buy something else. Personally I would be going the BFG a/t as you should get 80 -100k out of them on the Challenger being a bit lighter in weight. Have BFG on my Challenger at times and they are a good all rounder.

Two underated tyres here in Australia I think, are the Simex (now Sime brand) and Federal.
My next set of rubber will be the Federal MS351 A/T's. I have Fed Ecovan LT tyres on my often-off and often-on road C/trailer and they are tough cookies.

Which model Pirelli are you looking at? We have had the Scorpion ATR on Prado for about 10,000km. Excellent bitumen handling, very quiet. Has been fine on all 4WD tracks too, except once on very greasy yellow clay that would have tested all but the most aggressive M/Ts. Too early to say about the longevity.

Note that comments above about Pirellis might relate to the old A/Ts rather than the current ATRs, which have only been on the market for less than 2 years. The A/Ts won the Australian 4WD Monthly A/T tyres test in 2006. Pirelli claims that the ATRs offer the same off-road performance as the A/Ts, but much better performance on-road.

Whichever tyre you choose, shop around for best price - the difference is surprising. Don't forget to ask for all-in price: e.g. some retailers charge for disposal of old tyres.
