As far as which one to buy, I believe the Premium set will give you the better maps, but along with that, you will need a DVD player, rather than a CD player, connected to your PC.

NATMAP Raster Premium has higher quality images than NATMAP Raster. Premium edition images have lower compression rates applied and in some cases smaller pixel size.

It sounds like you have the 2003 release. That Release did not include all the fully revised 250k maps (started in around 1997 and completed in around 2004). To fill the gap some older maps were included from the older 250k maps and Army JOG 250k maps as well. I don't think the 2005 Release contains the full set of revised 250k maps but does contain a much higher proportion than the 2003 Release.

With the regard to the 2005 versions, the contents of the maps in the standard and premium are identical, ie They are the same maps. What is different is the compression algorithm in the Premium gives a better resolution when you zoom in.

From what I understand the premium version has the maps mosaiced into a handful of maps so you dont have to keep changing maps, just keep moving the map. Thats a lot better especially if you are using a mapping program.

I have an old version that you can for keeps. Mail me your address and I will post them. When you get them make a copy as a backup.

Oh yeah, there is a patch available for the 2003 raster because if you upgrade your browser to ie7 the raster will stop working. You get it from Geoscience Australia,

Thanks for your info guys.... With your info i was able to stumble through certain areas which made me finally understand what to do...
I ended up just moving 250k.ecw i think it is,,, i moved it into my oziexplorer directory and now it doesnt ask for the cd and i am sure it wont hesitate between maps...
