Walks with Dogs Melbourne

Submitted: Friday, Jun 01, 2007 at 09:53

HowdyDoody

Hello to all again, we have a Jack Russell and I'm looking for walk/hikes around Melbourne we can do in locations that dogs are allowed? A lot of the walks I have found are in or go through National Parks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Malcom, I have followed your instructions however am unable to find a link in the results that connects to Codes of Practice. Are you able to paste the link into a response for me.
I noted that a lot of the results did refer to wild dogs, prest species etc. Our dog is ALWAYS on a lead when we travel/walk/camp.

Try also www.parkweb.vic.gov.au go to the search button type in "dogs" with a tick on Parks and Venues hit search and scroll down each park site individually and you'll see which ones allow dogs.
I rang them myself and spoke to them and they sent me (unofficially) a list of parks that I could camp with the dog. The list had not been made up at that stage it might be now though.
I found them very helpful.
Let me know if you need more info.

Thank you for your help Malcom. It's is much appreciated. We have taken her camping to State Forests etc before (which is where we learnt to keep her on a lead when out of the tent - a Jack Russell loves 'exploring' everything that rustles and moves).
I also finally worked out getting the info you referred to on dse.

Hi Howdy, have to agree with you there, we're in W.A. and trying to take our Jack Russel anywhere is becoming a joke, anywhere in or around Denmark is taboo, as is all National parks etc, makes you wonder if they want your dollars or not ?
as usual a small minority spoils it for everyone,
good luck anyway,

Hi Dave, I don't mind not being able to take our Dog into a national park as I can appreciate the reasons why. I am trying to find other places we can go for day trips and take her with us so we don't leave her home alone so often - both working full time we need to give her some attention (and exercise) over the weekends. I swear, it's almost as bad as having kids...

And yes, in many cases it is the small minority that spoils it for everyone but I can't change it and I doubt anybody case. Human nature is a very diverse thing. Just got to accept it and enjoy.

I read a quote the other day that i thought was great:
'If we cannot now end our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity'. I believe it was John F Kennedy.

Food for thought.
