80SERIES TD PRICES OUT OF CONTROL

HI all,
just discovered this forum a week ago whilst searching for tips about travelling around australia and any info on the 80series cruiser. so much info. keep up the good work. i have been looking at the 80s for a couple of weeks now in the hope of finding a good one to take the wife, kids and camper around oz next year. the problem i am having is that every time i log onto carpoint.com.au and the like, they keep getting dearer. today there are two new listings. 97 model hdj80r one is $43000, the other $42000. Is this just shear arrogance or are they justified prices?. What would be considered a fair price if not justified?. personally i think no 10year old toyota or nissan for that matter, is worth that much regardless of past reputation. what do you all think.

So by your reply your nissan should have been $93,000.00 ,dream on , ,,,, father inlaw just sold his 80 series t/d ,late 96 model 196k , put onto front lawn at 8am with sign saying for sale $26,900.00 ,,sold at 8.15am same day ,
Opinions are like the dollar coin , not worth much.
Facts however can save you lots of dollars.

I just payed $44500 for a non turbo diesel 03 GXL with 74000 ks on it.

I could have got a 04 turbo GXL one with 53000ks for $52000, These are Darwin Prices.

A 97 GXL turbo , I wouldn't pay more than $20000.

Cheers Steve.

Dave,
I payed $16k(18 months ago) for a standard 80 with 140Km on the clock. You can get a lot of extras for the prices you are looking at.(Not a miner either)

Hi Dave,
I figured you must be in the west. It would nearly pay to buy over here and either drive it back or get it shipped over.
No personel experience with GQS only what I have read but I believe they were designed to take a turbo where the 1hz was not. You could buy one whack a turbo on it and still be in front. Seen immaculate 95s go over here for about 15 grand. Mind you as soon as you decide to buy you can never find one in good condition. I brought a 3.5 Jack with 101000ks with bbar/ tbar/ 10 stacker/ rust proofed/ driving lights for $12500. plus nsw rego. It goes like a scalded cat and better on fuel than wifes 3lt Paj.
Only problem I have got now is , if I dont use cruise I will end up being booked lol
Cheers and good luck mate Pete
