which air conditioner, anyone got a kingfisher?

hi, we are in a quandary, we have a 17.6 foot roadstar pop top and are looking into the different types of air conditioners for it. we were going to go with a normal domestic air con with an inverter but if we were to do this we don't know where to put the compressor. we have read about the kingfisher made by air command and was wondering if this would be better, but we are worried out how noisy they are. so if any one can shed some light on our problem it would be great. thanks from gonebush SA.

we thought that it wouldn't be warranted ether but we asked at a major store about the air cons and the issue of not having a warranty and they to our surprise said as long as it was put in by a qualified fitter that they could see no reason why it wouldn't be covered. i don't know if i'm that gullible to take that as gospel though.

the major store will warrant it?....what about the manufacturer?...the installaing dealer (store) cannot pass on a warranty not in place by the manufacturer!...

and I agree...qualified installer or not,I'd not take it as gospel as well

get it (the warranty) in writing from the dealer/store (make sure it says nothing about the manufacturer or their warranty...they may be trying to pass on the manufacturers warranty only...which will not cover it.) ....that way your covered no matter if the manufacturer will not warrant it....unless of course you get it writing from the manufacturer also

vibration will the killer to these units, assuming the condenser has plenty of free air and cannot be damaged by stones etc

I am still looking at this very issue which I raised on the forum some time ago.

Yes! Someone jumped out of the dark and said "No warranty". Well I'm starting to think so what! Just how much warranty do you get with a caravan unit and how much do you pay for it in comparison to a domestic type unit?

I am still exploring the issues but can't help thinking that if warranty if all your worried about then perhaps one should not even take their van out of the driveway.

Explore all the avenues available to you and hopefully someone out in forum land can off some advice based on experience/first hand knowledge rather than scare tactics.

Ian...I design sell and install daikin, mitsubishi, carrier/Apac, ECP and temperzone and have even stooped to installing cheapies ..purchased direct from the manufacturer or in the case of the cheapies the importer ....the warranties offered by them clearly refer to their installation procedures...all stationary units (ie installed in a house etc ......they will not pass on warranty if a unit is relocated in the same premises let alone removed and sold to another a person for re-install else where..not like a car where the warranty follows....

ring mitsi or the others and ask if you'd get warranty if unit installed in a caravan..I'd be very suprised if they do...

but none-the-less if i had a off road caravan or even on road for that matter i'd certainly be tempted to put one in...cheapy or known brand is the question?

hi, we have one of those cheapie units in our home and (touch wood) it hasn't missed a beat for the last 3-4 years, this is what we were going to put in the van but was warned against it because it isn't an inverter model, which we were told we should have. the warranty issue isn't that great with us because the way we look at it we are saving around $2,000 buying an inverter air con instead of the proper caravan type. but we don't think we can get one installed as space for the compressor is our issue. thanks

inverter or non-inverter shouldnt matter which as long as power supply can handle it and caravan electrics is set up for it...maybe two supplies needed to caravan and not one?

We fitted an el cheapo Conia reverse cycle air con to our 18 foot Jayco van, have been around Oz twice & lots of shortish trips, absolutley no probs. Warranty, who cares, can fit 10 for the price they want for the so called must have air cons they tell you will only do the job. I fitted the units up & had a licensed fitter do the electrics & gassing. Off on our third trip & I would be very surprised if anything goes wrong.
