Less Talk. More Ads............

So as Pauline said please explain time away from reading the forum, I take take a look & what do I see: less talk space more ad/info space. I thought the forum section of Exploroz was for the ranting's & raving of disillusioned forumites.
Personally there seems plenty of ad & info space available on the sides, top & bottom of the forum pages, not to require that the first comments in response to a forumites enquiry/comment is pushed to the side to allow space for INFOmercials.
Maybe we could that forum talk feast to a minimum, say 25% at max, while filling the remainder space with 75% infomercial / Into-tainment.
Do we really need the forumite writings at all, we could have just pure info topics instead of the mutters of it's menbers & visitors. Hmmmmmmm....

i don't know

Gramps the ad to the side of you off sets your profile. It makes you look absolutely fabulous says the shy little bunny wabbit

The sound of Elmer Fud snoring is boring!

All good things take time. In fact the main problem is the logon processor and this is being re-written by me right now. There is a series of issue between the old code and the new that must be resolved before I can be sure WHO is using the page. Sounds easy right but it is a big part of the migration strategy - it will be done this week.

madCrow,

Good to see you and that wascally wabbit back again.

David,

Hahaha I was'nt sure whether you were still going ahead with it or not. As others have said, we're all pretty well used to the new layout now. The changes will be done when they're done :)))

I'm still around and so is the wascally wabbit who remembers Elmor Fudd.

Just been busy with work, adding bits & pieces to the truck (which brings a smile to my face).

Your right changes will be done when they're done, but it takes awhile for old dogs to learn new tricks. Sit, heel, roll over, ly down, play dead. Gooood Boy.

Hope you are well & all is going excellent.

And as the vulcan Doctor Spock would say "Live long & Prosper."

mad Crow, it's old news. Had lots of discussion (search if you are interested in the discussion). I think we are mostly over it.

Sooorr-wee Norm if it's old news done to death, but as i said haven't been keeping up with the eploroz site & was surprised. Did a quick check back, but obviously not a big enough search.

To be fair... this site is a business not an on-line charity and must find some way to cover it's costs and make a profit. Google has ads but we don't bitch about them?

Mike, as a fellow non-member you are absolutely correct, but if I were a paying member I would be less than impressed that I had to pay $50 for the privilege of watching those adds. Guess that's why I'll continue to spend my spare $50 elsewhere.

.......... and before all you paying members get all over my case, it's my decision to be a member or not and I'm not complaining about the additional advertising because I don't have any right to.

Have a great day,
Geoff

Geoff

As a member it doesn't bother me, I just go to what i want to read and skip the other bits. If that one ad stops others supporting arguably the best site of its type I'd be surprised.

Banjo, it evidently has, not that I believe it should....Guess all the 4X4 magazines, newspapers etc must be not worth paying for as they have adverts.............

If the choice was the site with adds or no site at all,, 99% of members and lurkers would take it with the Adds...

That goes for me to. I fail to see what all the fuss is about over a few adds. It's a good sight & as pointed out before it is a business therefore needs to be financially viable.
Funny thing though about advertising, lots of criticism until such time we see an add for something we are interested in & want to buy. Then it's the best thing in the world. Cheers & keep up the good work David.

madCrow I'd even consider joining if the adds were totally removed for the members but that's pretty unlikely. Instead I just focus on what's important on the page & avoid getting sucked in.
Oh no I can't help myself..........those flashing blue & white colors...... I need a "DENCO DIESEL" turbo & intercooler. (Apparently you get more power with Denco) Maybe I could bolt it to my "COBB COOKER" to improve it's performance :-))
Cheers Craig................

I was discussing this with a few members and ex-members on MSN last night.. they each had their different reasons for not paying again, but all came down to why pay? Warm and fuzzys? Membership gives you a spot for photos - but so does every ISP - everyone is with an ISP... discounts on maps, well how often do you buy maps? or books? You can go to 'gatherings' if your a member or not.. you can ask advice and get it when your a member or not. so... ?

Paying is not an option, its silly, when theres a yillion other forums out there free with same people and same information.. I doubt theres more than 3% of people here that arent members of other free forums as well, either vanning, touring, 4wding or other where you can get the info.

It's a shame he didn't post it yesterday, it would have made the day go quicker LOL
