Busted Versa-Lite

Submitted: Sunday, Sep 02, 2007 at 22:12

Sads

Anyone know anywhere that repairs versalites, or whether they should carry a warranty?

240v model, and it appears a capacitor has blown up on internal electrics. As it has all been set in ceramic, can't really replace the capacitor assuming it is what is at fault.

Place where purchased are not interested in it, and stated to replace components would be more than the cost of a new light.

I have never heard a bad thing about versa-lites but this one seems to be cooked @ approx 4 y/o & < 50 hours use. Might have to opt for a cheaper arlec.

Gday Sads, we have 11 of them in 12 and 240 volt versions and have never had a problem, not even a fluro.

Might be cheaper to by a new one.

And don't plug in the 12 volt one with the cover removed......they give you a real good boot.

I would give Versa Light a call.

You may want to try Jaycar because they do the 12 volt conversion kits for them at a good price and you maybe able to adapt theres to your's.

Cheers Richard,

A Jaycar conversion kit to 12v sounds like an awesome idea. Hope it fits down the handle.

Hi Sads
I have 2 12v Versalights, both 14 years old and have never let me down. I can not make a comment on the 240v model, but should be as good as the 12v unit.

I would not buy a cheaper unit. I needs another light and my wife purchased an ARB Similar light. Faulty switch and all made in China.
Not a patch on the Aussie made Versalight.

Keep your many here in Australia and buy Australian Made.

Cheers

Stephen

To add some undue credit to versalite, they were fantastic on the phone, and although not a sure thing it appears it will be covered under warranty.

already regretting my comments about considering a cheaper chinese alternative. A good light, a one off rare fault, and great australian service.
