I was out that way about three weeks ago, Dave. The roads are dry and reasonably free of corrugations (although this is relative). Some sections were very stony, as usual.
There were all manner of vehicles on the roads, including a guy on a thirty year old 750cc BMW motor cycle heading for
Birdsville. You shouldn't have any problem in the VW. Speed and overloading is usually what brings people undone in that part of the country - it doesn't affect my ego one bit trundling along at 80 or 90kph....
