2WD from Innamincka to Thargomindah

Has anyone recent 2WD experience on the route? I'm hoping to go to the Flinders Ranges in late September and home via Innaminka in a VW camper.
I'd appreciate comments on whether road conditions are suitable.
Thanks
Dave

Do not know much about the new VWs but if it is half as good as an old Kombi would be no trouble.

I was out that way about three weeks ago, Dave. The roads are dry and reasonably free of corrugations (although this is relative). Some sections were very stony, as usual.

There were all manner of vehicles on the roads, including a guy on a thirty year old 750cc BMW motor cycle heading for Birdsville. You shouldn't have any problem in the VW. Speed and overloading is usually what brings people undone in that part of the country - it doesn't affect my ego one bit trundling along at 80 or 90kph....

Dear Bruce, Anne and George,
Thanks for the replies and encouragement . . its an oldie . .an '82 VW Transporter camper (just after the Kombi) so it is quite capable of travelling slowly. It DOES have a Subaru engine though.

I'll do my best to care for the tires.

Safe travelling.

I was through there last week. There is a lot of road works going on and road was generally quite good. The SA side is rougher but not far from border to Innamincka. We passed a few people towing regular road type caravans and they had no probs although they were verrry slow. Have fun.
