Article Overview - All Terrain (AT) Tyres
When you are looking for a compromise between off-road capability and good on-road manners, an All-Terrain (AT) tyre is the way to go. View Full Article...
My sister lives in Kalgoorlie and is in the process of getting new tyres for her Jeep Laredo and is asking her bro for advise that I wasn't sure I could give.
She has Pirelli LT/235/75/R15 on at the moment. She has picked up a tek screw on her travels, but the guy at the tyre joint said Pirelli's would have to be ordered in and they have suggested to fit the Maxxis brand.
I love my Coopers on the LC, but being a single mum she can't offord.
Has anyone out there had any experience with the Maxxis brand tyres ?
The guy at the tyre joint pointed out that they had taller tread, but that doesn't always mean they last longer.
She does only a little bit of dirt tracks out there but mainly does the Perth to Kal run.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Cheers Glenn........

if mainly driving on sealed road I would go for the cheaper option. Any tyre will get a screw in it. That's just bad luck, not bad tyres. Personally I would go for an AT tyre with close treads so it's not as noisy on the road.
Just my two cents worth.

I can almost guarantee she went to Ian Diffen Tyre Centre in Kal. We live in Kal and went in there to get a quote on Goodyear Wranglers but the tyre dude put them down so badly and suggested the Maxxis. We've had Wranglers before so know they are good for what we want, ended up going elsewhere and buying Coopers. I know this doesn't answer your question but perhaps your sister should go to a few other tyre places and get some other options. That centre seems to push the Maxxis and won't even consider selling you a different brand.

If it's only a tek screw puncture and the tyre is otherwise sound, it should be able to be patched with an internal gator.

Shouldn't be any need to discard the tyre otherwise.

My son has maxis road tyres on his commodore and I have to say that we won't be buying again. Wear quickly, poor grip and slippery in the wet.

Try Kelly safaris for cheap tyres. I have had 2 sets (long time ago now) and thought that they were OK for the price.
