Strap - Snatch or Tow - Who Knows???

Hi All,

I was recently given a recovery strap, it's white, 9m long, 50mm wide, 5mm thick, and has no markings or break load limits.

Before using it for the wrong application, how could I work out if it's a snatch strap or winch ext strap?

Cheers,
Alex

Alex,

A strap with no rating is worse than not having a strap at all.

It was given to you, so it has cost you nothing up until now and if it does break during a recovery, who knows what it will cost.

A rated snatch strap is not that expensive in the 4WD world of recovery items.

Cut the eyes and then cut the strap into small lengths and buy yourself the right gear.

Or alternatively, keep it merely as a tow rope for onroad applications.

Hi Alex

Just hook it up to a tree or something and get it tight then see if you can stretch it with the car, if its a snatch it will stretch 200-300mm.

Snatch straps are generally heavier and thicker with a more open weave whereas extension strap looks more like a heavy seat belt
