The MK Tritons are pretty reliable. They have had a couple of recalls so check that they have been done. Not sure if all the recalls are for those year models though.

I have the V6 but have a mate who has the 2.8 diesel and to date he has not problems (his is an 05 model).

As for the number of K's they are good for, how long is a piece of string??
Look after any vehicle and it will last a fair while.

Mitsubishi generally have an unwarranted poor reputation going back to the 80's, caused by a poor transmission in the first model Magna.
I have had three Mitsubishis and the have all, touch wood, been the most trouble free cars of the many I have owned. Did 350,000 in my 95 Magna without spending anything other than brakes, tyres and timing belts, (and a fuse).
The best thing about the poor reputation, is you can pick up one, just a couple of years old, for the same price as 6 or 7 year competitor.

From all accounts very reliable. A car I hadn't even considered until a few years ago when a mate purchased one. His is a non turbo and sluggish as you'd expect but can't be faulted otherwise. He works his hard and the only issue he's had is having to replace the glow plugs a couple of times. I was looking at buying one until I found my 80 series. A lot of car for the money compared to some dual cabs on the market. The years you've mentioned might all be intercooled as well.

Gday mate, we've got a 2004 TD GLS and she's a beauty! Got it late last year with low K's and because it was delivered to the first owner in Jan 2005, we managed to get the 5yr warranty as well!
Check this out, not because we've had to use it but because should you get any little issue, regardless of breed of vehicle, you don't need extra bills.
The TD is pretty good on fuel and good to drive with.
