What's going on in this country?

This afternoon I was walking towards a shopping centre to get some lunch and over heard what I thought was an altercation between kids. However, it turned out to be a couple of teens giving an old lady a fair bit of curry.

At this point nobody was going to her assistance. As I walked over, these mongrels started pushing her around and she fell over. I gave one of the fellas a bit of a thumping, then assisted the lady to a seat.

As I write this, I'm still fuming that a fragile old woman could be treated like this.

Apart from the fact that no respect is shown to elderly people, I'm disgusted that not one able bodied person gave a damn. The behaviour of the louts was only matched by the indifference of those who were in a position to help.

Its a shame it seems some people prefer to not get involved as it does not effect them and don't want to take action.

Of course a bit of a thumping, if one of them decided to lay a charge on you ........ the strange thing is you would have a case to answer.

Of course I would have done exactly the same thing ..... thump first (often) and make them count worry about the outcome later.

From my point of view WELL DONE hope the lady was ok as this sort of thing can have a huge effect on them.

Well its time for our Governments to take account of them self.
I completed my school in 1953,& the cane was used with great force if required & you had respect & the local cop would kick you up the bum if you where up to no good or on the street for no reason & then see your dad & then came the second kick,
I believe that every person at the age of 17-18 not working should be placed in the National services ,male or female ,where you tow the line very quickly, & it will give them respect for them self & others.
It is one of the best places to learn respect , I did my 3 month & then 2 +2 year extra CMF .When I finished my term I held the top Army transport Licence which was a great help to understand the roads we travel ,bush or tar.I believe I was a better person when I completed my Nachos

Son's friend of 18 is an Israeli national and been living on Oz for over 10 years. Now Oz citizen.
But if they go to visit rellies, will have do the service, so decided to go back and do it. She found it hard at first but then fitted in and is planning to go back and serve full time.
Yes, it does also include the chance of being shoot at.
Switzerland and Holland still have national service I believe for 18 year olds.

There is nothing wrong with this country.

There is trouble around every corner and within any community if you want to look for it.

There seems to be a continued presecence(even a plethora) of posts on this forum decrying that the world has changed beyond what the perception of the poster is. It is either in the form of a rehashed news item or something personal. The forum becomes something of a Lonely Hearts Club.

All those aggrieved persons jump on the bandwagon with their support to show their own feelings on the subject touted and post their one track views.

Lets stick to Exploroz travel subjects and mechanical stuff and keep away from the psycholigical and bleeding heart ones.

My observation and opinion as usual.

It's nice to see a refreshing post. I agree that nothing has changed.

The first ships to this country came with a bunch of crooks who thought the law did not apply to them. Why should things be any different now.

Willem, I agree with you in principle, but most of the OT posts, thread hijacking & chatroom style banter seems to be from Members, which is the main reason that I didn't join in the recent membership drive.
Exploroz is an excellent resource for information & maybe a few more OT threads should be 'moderated'.

I will admit that I don't watch the Who's posted What on EO. I take your word for it.

Membership is a way of supporting the website as a whole and really has nothing much to do(except for an ego boost) with the forum....

Moderation of OT threads has dropped its standard again even though David had something to say about that a while ago.

Why do you think this post should be moderated?

Some people may want to talk about nuts and bolts, but others enjoy diverse topics.

I might be wrong, but the range of opinion, experience and advice is what makes this forum so successful.

The day my input is censored, is the day I'll hand in my membership!

Just to balance it out, we had an incident in this area. A young woman returning to her car parked at a station was attacked by a druggie trying to break into cars. She lost some of her underwear, and suffered bruising etc.
She was saved by a group of youths who ran the guy off and phoned the cops.
So much for the "evil youth of today".

Good on you Kim, I sincerely hope that most of us would have done the same. A great pity that the 10% of trouble makers get 99% of the publicity.

Good on you mate well done sort these little buggers out......you know what the main cause for all this is other than parents who are too busy keeping up with the jones family to pay attention to where thier brats are and what they are doing and blaming some one else for any trouble they get in. You can thank Paul Keating who by the way doesnt even live in Australia any more who with out the knowledge or I believe authority of the average Aussie signed up to the united nations childrens rights act which precludes corporal punishment in schools or get this by an individual....eg parents.
So perhaps Keating who lives in France should come and face the results of what he and his government has left us with.

Flight Sargent,

Are you sure about Paul Keating living in France, because according to the Hon Paul Keating official website http://www.keating.org.au/main.cfm his contact details are as follows:

PO Box 1265
Potts Point 1335
NSW Australia

TUSCULUM 3 Manning Street
Potts Point 2011 NSW Australia

which indicates to me he still lives here in Australia, or at least maintains a residence in Australia.
