We are thinking about buying cheap camper van or motor home to travel from Margaret River to Sunshine Coast. Can anyone advise me on resale. Do I have to reregister in QLD to sell? What is the market like in QLD?

If you want to sell a vehicle as a registered entity then you will have to re-register the vehicle in Queensland. You will have to prove a permanent address to MVR(or whatever they are called) to register your vehicle.

If you want to sell the vehicle 'as is' then there will be no need to re-register it as long as you let the MVR in WA know that you have disposed of the vehicle. It is up to the new owner to register his/her purchase.

Can't help you on the market in Queensland but will say that it would most likely be poor, as so many people want to live up there and there would be a lot of vehicles for sale. Then again, you never know your luck!!!

Cheers

To the contrary, I don't think the resale market is so bad in QLD. The number and variety of vans and campers in the QLD market is a lot less than say Sydney/NSW so the prices remain very competitve.

One of my brothers buys cheap camper vans, repairs or does them up to standard for resale and he has always resold them privately with no problem. He has made some good money that way too. It will obviously depend on what you are selling, the condition, the area and the time of year.

I know they have to get a gas certificate when they sell them from a gasfitter/plumber.

Do some advance research on what is for sale in the QLD market before you buy elsewhere, and that way you should be able to sell easy enough as you know what is and isn't selling and what is popular, the prices etc. Cheers Mick

I purchased a WA registered vehicle in SA. All I had to do was pay by visa (over the phone) and fill in change of ownership forms on the internet. I did however have to supply an address in WA where the vehicle was 'garaged'. The WA vehicle registration people told me (email) that this address could be a backpackers or friends address and that was where all mail from the WA vehicle registration people would be sent. I will probably sell the vehicle in WA in about three years time.
