I am concerned about the lack of clear markings in and around school zones. Recently I was visiting South Australia and Victoria and driving around a city in northern Victoria and I was not aware of the location of school zones. I accidentally came across a zone from a side street onto the main road. There were NO VISIBLE signs, if there were signs I along with the vehicle I was following did not notice it until a child ran from the opposite side of the road to a parked vehicle which contained adults. I believe that all schools signs should be clearly marked with the road surface being painted Red or something similar. This will automatically bring to the attention of the road user that this is a school zone area and drivers should be alert to the possibility of children being in the area 24/7. As with most drivers who have retired I am not aware of the dates of school holidays and this sought of action will be an additional tool for road safety in particular, the safety of children.
