I have a current model Pajero with 18 inch wheels and live in the Pilbara, a couple of months ago I changed the factory fitted H/T tyres with some A/T tyres. The unfortunate thing with large wheels, is there isn't currently a large range to choose from. I have fiited Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour 265/60R18 onto the Pajero, and have not had any punctures yet! The first time I went offroad with the standard tyres, I got a flat.
At 500 dollars a tyre they aren't cheap, but are better then the standard H/T tyres supplied on the current Pajero VRX & Exceed.

having spent some years living and working in the pilbara i know how harsh the environment is on everything but especialy tyres. 500 bucks apiece certainly sounds expensive but what would you rather do? spend the day enjoying your 4wding or fixing flats?

It sounds as if you have already made your choice. Another option may have been to store the 18" wheels and HT tyres, then for similar $ to what you spent on tyres buy 16" wheels and new tyres. 16" would give you a significantly wider choice of tyres with profile likely better suited to driving in the Pilbara.

With alot of the new vehicles from manufacturers, they are coming standard with 17inch and 18inch wheels, these are required to fit larger diameter brake rotors and 4 spot calipers. This is a benefit in vehicle braking power
Hopefully tyre manufacturers come up with more choices in rubber for bigger rims.
Unfortunately for now, it isn't cheap for people buying this sized rubber.

At $500 a tyre I'm sure that you are glad the SAs are performing well. A colleague at work just had these fitted (265/75/R16) and is happy so far - early days. He was lucky enough to pick them up when GY had their "buy 4, pay for 3" sale. Do you find that the lower profile impacts the off-road performance?

I am in Tom Price and run the Toyo OPAT tyres on my 80 series and 79 seires td work ute. These are nothing short of bulletproof in this area and I give them an absolute hiding traveling from site to site with excessive loads in the ute across all access roads, pits and back tracks and still get over 60k out of them. Over the past two years I have only had 4 flats and 3 were all repairable, The fourth was on tha Karratha rail access road, I get the Toyos out of Perth at a buy price of $240.00 each for 265/75/16. Definatley a tyre worth looking at.
