Yep we are definitely the same. No TV or DVD in he car and usually no radio either. We just have the UHF, HF some games we play along the trip and the scenary. After all we are out there to get away from it all, not to take it with us.

Maybe we should start up a "game idea swapping" section on this forum (like the map set up). We are always trying to think up new ways of keeping our 3 lads (7, 10, and 12) from killing each other. They have PSP consoles; but even then they get a bit testy after a few hours.

Might have to look into the talking books idea too.

Dont we know that feeling. When all 4 of ours used to come it could get quite interesting. Now only the two youngest ones travel and with no games consoles, mp3 players, tv or dvd they actually have to learn to get on and pplay with each other.

The last trip was quite interesting as they found some lady beetles at one camp site which kept them amused for hours and hours, to the point where they travelled with us to the next camp site where they again kept them amused for hours, before being release unharmed.

I reckon if we had PSP's in the car they would be out the window rather quickly. Maybe I am getting less tolerence in my old age...lol

It's funny really how we all see things differently. I am much more inclined to not have a telly going in the house that stop them watching something in the car. On long trips like Mebourne to Alice or Melbourne to Cairns in three days it is mind numbingly boring and I find a movie helps the hours go by.

We flew Jetstar recently and I found myself wanting a movie... I guess that I should have sat looking out the window or just reading..... Naughty boy I am.

I hate the television in the house being on all the time.... that is my hate more than in the car on long trips. Interfers with study, reading, social interaction, homework, jobs around the house. Don't get me started.

I think a combination of all is the way to go...we have a dvd in the car..it doesn't run all the time...the kids have colouring books, they have books..they have games...and they love to just listen to music, thankfully, my kind of music and not the wiggles any more...they also love playing a game called "who can stay quiet the longest"...we had absolute silence for an hour one day until Callum wanted a drink :)

I tend to agree with Andrew...sometimes a DVD is a god send..even for me!...I'd rather them not watching one here when the weather is fine...being outside and playing...but sometimes a dvd just breaks the trip up...

Talking books are fantatic ideas too....like I said in the Pyrenees post..we take them along with us insisting that they adopt our lifestyle..it's a big ask for small people sometimes...a few concessions make it more enjoyable for them and us...
