the Geko use AAA batteries which are not cheap but if you use NiMH rechargeable batteries it would be ok.
Any of the above are preferential to the Magellan 300, 310 and 315 as they have all the needed Australian datums, better menus, better resolution screen and features.
If you can afford it, or be patient and save for a while, I would highly recommend the Garmin eMap which is a
GPS model that will do everything for your needs and allow you to grow with it. The eMap has basic mapping included, but at a later date you can add a data card and comprehensive mapping.
