Tanami

Rob

We are travelling to the Kimberly in June via the Tanami. Is there a quarantine inspection station on the border into WA? or is it only at Kunanarra?

Rob,
came down the Tanimi last july from Kunnanurra to Alice , must say I dont recall any actual quarantine check point. I know we were going the wrong direction as far a quarantine is concernred but with what little was out there I'm sure I would have seem a check point on the other side of the road.
I only went north of Kunanarra as far as Larke Argyle turnoff on the tar and dont recall any inspection within that distance of town either.
regards
Howard

Rob,
As far as I am aware there is no checkpoint on Tanami Track. Your question shows a considerable amount of thought and you are obviously aware of limitations & restrictions so if you are heading to Kununurra from Halls Creek then please observe quarantine rules. Chances are you'll be clean out of fruit anyway but the quarantine is only there to protect Kununurra's fruit industry.

I believe that the Quarantine check point at is for the Ord district that is why there is no check point on the Tanami ????

Due to insufficient resources, the only quarantine checkpoints on the border are on the main roads (east of Kununurra and at Eucla). Please don't see this as a license to bring fruit in on the other roads and tracks. There are often reminder signs and amnesty bins on the less frequented border crossings, so if you do find yourself with any fruit, you can easily get rid of it.
Cheers,
Alex (Former Quarantine Inspector)
