My '05 cruiser had them and I had not long had the cruiser, one night I nearly put a motorcyclist into the medium strip because I thought he was a lot further back ( he was level with rear wheels), so the next day I went to Toyota and ask if I could get the older model flat glass style and was told that I could only the type of mirror applicable to my make and year model, don't worry about it I said in a huff and walked out.
Half way back to where I was parked It dawned on me that earlier 100 series had a flat glass mirror and there was one in the used car lot, so I had a look and sure enough, a flat mirror on an '02 FZJ 105, back into spare parts (same bloke) and said, can I have driver side mirror glass for an 02, paid the $68 ($120 approx for a convex type) and fits straight in.
Only did the drivers side ,Those convex mirrors really do have a place and are real handy, but I hate depending ONLY on them,
OK for passenger side, often wide angles are needed, but for drivers side, actual distance is far more practical IMHO
