Hi Andrea ,

If you need an idea if they work or not , try and find a single positive report from an automotive watchdog like the NRMA or RAC .

Also , ask yourself , why wouldn't all the car manufacturers put them on their cars as standard . Low fuel consumption is a huge selling feature on a new car .

When things sound to good to be true , they usually are .

I have two (2) in the air inlet to my 2.4Lt Diesel.

One is in the rubber Air inlet adjacent to the alloy manifold and the other is about half way to the air filter from the manifold.

I had the choice and the opportunity to remove them and get my money back

I choose to keep them installed...

Would I use them again . . . yes

Everyone has, and yes, is also entitled to an opinion, but have they actually paid out the money and had them installed, then removed them and got a refund or are they just giving their opinion based on someone's else's opinion.

I will remove them and the Dual Battery & Solar system when I dump this vehicle.

I have a different sticker on my rear window, it only says 'Hyclone'

if the prerequisite to having an opinion or the value of an opinion is based purely on purchase then we are in BIG strife. Especially in Forum world. Secondly I value the opinions of friends and acquaintances to whom I have a level of trust and respect for. The generosity of them wishing to save others the grief of wasting time and or money should be applauded.
Maybe it would be an easier challenge for the non-believing mega-masses to challenge Hyclones efficacy by asking users like yourself to lobby car organisations to freely recommend these units.I guess my bottom line is I haven't ever had a lumber puncture, my unfortunate friend has....would I pay to have one just to find out he was right about the level of pain...nah. I review my earlier post and based on everything read since, my gut feeling and industry opinion, that opinion has now changed.

Grouchoff,
the idea of an 'opinion' is obviously different to each person, there is always two sides to a 'story' and often both are correct..

I said I have two Hyclones and I'm happy with them, if that's my opinion, then it's based on the fact that I do have two of them and yes I'm happy, or obviously I would have removed them and got a refund, I choose to leave them there, and that's a fact, lol.

My opinion is not to be based on purchase, but on the fact that I do have them installed and plan to keep them.

I'm sorry you don't value my opinion, obviously if it had suited you then you would value it, as I've NOT posted they either work or don't work, I don't see the hassle.

As to asking car makers to use this type of technology, it's presently being used by Mercedes and various others also, but that's not what you want to read is it ?

.........and as noted many times before they are being used by Mercedes far closer to the inlet of the cylinder than ever possible with a Hiclone, and are a part of an R&D engineered solution. Anything that is put in line PRIOR to the plenum chamber is going to have sweet FA effect on the air entering the cylinder.

Other application often brought up it that Toyota use them in their intake. Once again this HAS NOTHING to do with fuel atomization and everything to do with air filtration (like those cyclonic vacuum cleaners) in fact being sited before the air filter.

Mainey, could you suggest ONE car manufacturer that actually has Hiclones (or their equivalent) IN THE LOCATIONS that Hiclone specify? I think not, as the positions they are in have only one purpose, to empty the pocket of gullible purchasers.....

Why not just ask how many people with 'opinions' have had them fitted and then returned them for their money back, I think the answer may be zero ?

Yes, that's only my opinion, you have your opinion and others also have their different opinions too, it does not mean I'm right or I'm wrong - or does it ??

After all it's only an opinion, nothing more and nothing less ?

OK, I will own up to being another fool that bought one with no effect. I had it too long before returning it. I finally chucked it out when I moved house.
I fitted it to a 3.9 V8 petrol Range Rover after a friend swore to me that it had given him better economy.
I placed it in the recommended position between the MAF and throttle , and then shifted it around. ZILCH!

When I thought about it, it is impossible to work on a petrol as the throttle blade is almost closed most of the time.

Now they MAY work on a diesel as there is no throttle.
The carmakers such as mercedes who have tumble inducers in their manifolds always have them just before the port, ie after the throttle blade.
If Hiclone did 8 little ones that fitted in the inlet manifold trumpets of a 3.9 or 4.0 Thor V8 just before the ports, then it may have some effect. BUT they do not AFAIK.

I was dumb enough to install one on my Petrol 80 series 3 years ago - I was told that they definitely work - I thought oh - well worst can happen is a blow a couple of hundred bucks.

Well, I installed it and there was ZERO inprovement in fuel economy. They told me that was because Hiclones work best in hot weather - so I left it in and waited for summer to do a test - noticed no change and forgot about it.

What did happen was that when the engine was cold, I had a hesitation - like a miss until the engine warmed up.

3 years later, I decided to rip out that Hiclone - no point having it there - guiess what that hesitation that no mechanic was able to find the cause for - went away!!!!

So my reccomendation is - in an 80 series 1FZ-FE petrol - definitely does not work - causes problems no saving in fuel.

Seems to me from other reports they don't work in petrol engines, but do work in some diesel engines.
Not worth the money they ask for them, I am glad I didn't pay for mine.

fisho, you posted, "but have they actually paid out the money and had them installed, then removed them and got a refund or are they just giving their opinion based on someone's else's opinion. what a load of crap"
fisho, no that's not 'crap' it's only a question !!

You say ""Luckily I was able to return it""
So now your happy, why on earth would I be 'embarrassed' just because I'm prepared to say I still have mine fitted and did not seek a refund, if I was embarrassed in any way I would have not posted at all :-)

Surely someone out there with access to a Dyno could answer this very quickly. No change in output = no improvement in economy or performance.....

I seem to remember the Hyclone website having Dyno results, but they could be fudged/do the with reading early in the morning when the air is cold and more dense (shold be careful with that last word), and with out the hyclone in the heat of the day......everyone is capeable of selective statistics.

When I fitted the lpg it was easy, run it with the switch on, then with it off, there is your two graphs in as close to identical conditions as you will probably get.

Mate, Facing ridicule here but I have had one for 11 years and I swap it into every vehicle I have.
Although it works better in naturally aspirated diesels that petrols such as hilux up to 2.8lt and early 1HZ.
From the time we put one in a bj73 with the 3B motor it became smoother and the mirrors stopped vibrating at idle.

There isn't a noticeable decrease in fuel consumption but I don't usually worry too much about that (wouldn't own a big vehicle if I did) but there is a noticeable improvement in smoothness and smoke when cold.

This isn't heresay only what I have observed.

Keep it ...sure.

Dave

HYCLONE FOR MEN.

Us blokes will try anything if it means more power but this is the same as marketing anti-ageing or cellulite cream to women. They don't care that it doesn't work for everybody else it may just work for them.
