Hi All,

Currently planning a trip in the se gulf area and just wondering if anyone has driven this road.

It turns off the Savanah Way approximately 60 west of Georgetown and continues via Strathmore (property?), Miranda Downs and Glencoe to pick up the Burke Developmental Road east of Karumba.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Regards
Ross

Hi Ross,
Thought I could help but haven't taken that route before. Sounds interesting. Just realised how old my Atlas is - it doesn't have that road connecting from Wallabadah to Miranda Downs
Note to self - Update atlas.
Happy Traveling
Cheers

Hello 4x4 falcon & Jason,

My Hema maps 2007 don't show a road connecting from Wallabadah to Miranda Downs either. The only place I've been able to find a roadmap showing a road there was the BOM floodwarnings for the Gilbert River and that does show a road following the river through to Miranda Downs.

Perhaps a thought would be to phone the Etheridge Shire council which includes Georgetown in its boundaries. They might be able to give you some up to date info.

Other than that I hope that someone on the forum has travelled on the road and can help you.

Looking at Google Maps here:

This is the start of the road on the Savanah Way.

http://www.4x4falcon.com/maps/index_8_s.html?centre_lat=-18.1929¢re_long=142.8932&zoom=14

At Strathmore:

http://www.4x4falcon.com/maps/index_8_s.html?centre_lat=-17.8623¢re_long=142.5592&zoom=14

From here there appears to be a road that remains on the NE side of the river or cross the river and pickup the road here:

http://www.4x4falcon.com/maps/index_8_s.html?centre_lat=-17.8313¢re_long=142.4847&zoom=14

This side of the river shows clear roads? to Miranda Downs then Glencoe.

If you go to whereis.com and get directions from Georgetown to Karumba via "Shortest Route" not fastest time it shows via this road so it is a designated road but may only be used as property tracks. Particularly between Strathmore and Miranda Downs.

Cheers
Ross
