...................................................................
Due to recent rain events in Queensland, large volumes of water will enter the Cooper Creek and cause flooding of the Innamincka areas. Visitor sites are likely to be flooded for a period of time. It is recommended to check local conditions and contact the Desert Parks hotline on 1800 816 078 before travelling to the area. The flood waters are expected to arrive approx. 1st March, causing the Innamincka Crossing to be closed for about 3-4 weeks. Expect road closures through the area as water levels rise.
PLEASE CHECK ROAD CONDITIONS IN THE AREA PRIOR TO TRAVEL

yeah steve,
Some of the best trips I've had have have been when there's a lot of water around. I'd love to head up that way when theres plenty of water about. Unfortunately, it usually means the Coongie Road gets cut.

Hey Pesty and Mrs Pesty, grandbaby no. 3 arrives in 8 weeks - how fantastic - we are catching up to you. Got two little gorgeous girls so far (and as the mother of boys) I'm kind of hoping it will be another little girl so I can make cute sewing things, but I don't really care. They are such fun. Well be back up yonder very soon.

That is not great news for me. As I've indicated in another thread, I head out from the Gold Coast on April 4 and will arrive Innamincka on April 8th. Now maybe things will have subsided by then but I was going to use Walkers Crossing to get to Birdsville and I believe that it floods very easily. Can anyone enlighten me on this?

I reckon you're timing will be perfect for the Innamincka visit.
But I agree, its quite likely that Walkers Crossing will be closed. To get to Birdsville, its likely that you can cross the flash bridge at Nappa Merrie and head north via Arrabury and Cordillo Downs. Alternatively, come down the Strez and up the Birdsville Track.

Yahoo Uncle Phil - I just love it when it floods - should be there by then to see it also! Shame it's only 3 - 4 weeks though because it won't last long.

Great to hear that some areas are getting a bit of relief from the draught. Any chance of sending some more wet stuff down to the Murray....
