Innamincka ExplorOz National Gathering

Submitted: Saturday, Mar 01, 2008 at 08:17

Willem

Innamincka is expected to flood this week and the town common camp ground will most likely go under water. However it should be dried out again by July

I have organised with the John Osborne of the Innamincka Progress Association, that our mob be able to camp there for longer than the normally alotted three days. Camp fees are payable to the Progress Association and are $5 per vehicle per night.

Please bring a small amount of firewood with you so that we can have a good camp fire.

You will need a Desert Parks Pass for Innamincka Regional Reserve (including Coongie Lakes) and Strzelecki Regional Reserve, but not for the following:

Strzelecki Track (Lyndhurst to Innamincka)
Cordillo Road (Innamincka to Birdsville Via Cordillo Downs)
Innamincka to Nappa Merrie
Innamincka Town Common
Innamincka to Birdsville via Walkers Crossing

They may be good to drive without a trailer but put any load behind them and the economy goes out the door LOL.
I am not game to try and tow my trailer behind ours.

Hi Kev, I would imagine you will have a chain saw, if you need another I can bring mine but if not I will have my new Chinese petrol battery charger, 50 amps, (if its still going that is hahaha) if you need to charge some batteries.
Its four stroke and chain saw two stroke so would have to carry oil etc. So no sense doubling up if we don't have to.

Bruce,

I am going to St George on the Queens B'Day weekend to drop the trailer off and cut the fire wood at my parents place.
I have at my disposal 3 chainsaws as well as a PTO driven saw bench on an old Massey Ferguson Tractor (TE 20)

So all I will have to do is connect the trailer when we stop over night.

Kiwi,

You can try and light my fire when ever you like LOL Are you a Tamworth Hill Billy yet??

I'm going to from the Gold Coast to Birdsville via Innamincka in early April. My proposed itinerary is as follows.

4th - Goondiwindi
5th - Eulo
6th - Noccundra
7th - Epsilon Station
8th - Innamincka
9th - Birdsville via Walker's Crossing
11th- Windorah and then back to the GC via Longreach, Blackall, whatever.

What parts of this should I seriously reconsider. We've already paid for accommodation at Birdsville and at Longreach.

If the town common goes under water does this mean that the Walker crossing route will be affected?

Yep, Walkers Crossing will be out till somewhere deep into the winter. If the Town Common goes under you will not have access to Coongie Lakes or Cordillo Downs road. I suggest you ring Innamincka Trading Post 08 86759900 for further info.

Hi Holden4th
My wife and I are contemplating Brisbane to the SW corner of Qld, (Bore track) to Innaminka, Birdsville, Poeppel's Corner, and back to Brisbane, within a few days of your trip around the Innaminka/Birdsville.
I think we share similar concerns about the expected flooding, and would appreciate any updates you collect on the conditions if you have the time.
Anything I find out could obviously be shared.
I don't know if the PM system works, but if you want to email me, you can on brushmarx@optusnet.com.au
