(3) When this engine is 'a peakin' the turbo is 'a glowin' (thats why the heat blanket/shield) and the cooling system is miles from 'a blowin'.


I haven't seen this particular turbo glow, however I have seen others at the same time just like it, glowing cherry red and always wondered how they cool the whole shebang, and this is one very simple answer.

I posted it to give others like Roachie and Trevor R ( Both Nissan duds) and idea or two as they are always moaning that their rigs run hot, and wasted countless hours & dollars trying to fix same.

Listen here you two, I am the most sensible self-castigator with the best of them, who has no problems what-so-ever with dream machines that he now drives.

Actually ironed out the last of the JEEP foibles 2 weeks ago when they 'stripped all vestiges' of the original software programmes from the management computers and re loaded them with the latest software versions.

Just amazing what a software update (minus previous bugs) will deliver.

I don't like it in vehicles, however it is a sign of the times so I guess I'll just have to 'embrace' it and to my best to adapt along with all the zillions of others in the future.

As to what side you use, I have no idea other than to have a guess that the diesel head seems to have insufficient room/space/meat to fit a port on the exhaust side. Also the turbo on the diesel seems to be a lot higher than on the petrol model which maybe causes direct heat problems.

If that turbo on the diesel above was sitting in the same position on the petrol model it would 'fry' it.

I reckon who ever did the petrol one, must have been in cahoots with the one who did the diesel one.

He has just used another conception for a collection manifold or it may be an evolutionary R&D thing.

I just posted this to give the 'hot forumites' a few ideas as to how they may attack their heating problems

Lucy that particular engine (TB45 turbo) was built by Ontrack 4x4 in Kealba on the western side of Melbourne. ontrack 4x4 They have built a pretty good reputation in powerful turbo engines for comp trucks.
The head cooling mod is identical to that done by All head services in Braeside so I would hazard a guess that All head made the modifications.
All head also do a modified water pump with a new stainless impeller that supposedly minimises the cavitation that can occur with standard water pumps on TB/TD 42,45's.

I know a number of forum members have chucked $'sss at modifiying the Turbo and/or exhaust in an effort to make the suckers run cooler when this mod would cure their woes in a flash.

That radiator/cooler you can see in the pics is a oil cooler, however an extra coolant cooler would no doubt work just as well.

(1) Nissan ( not the one pictured above which is a comp truck) had it for 27 years since new and there is nothing you can add or detract from it other than it owes me zilch and runs 100% on LPG without a hiccup. No petrol since 1986.

(2) Toyota - 75 series 1HZ Troopy (Just fantastic)

(3) JEEP - 05 KJ CRD limited ( Just sensational )
